The fate of the little Saul built vessel Regina could have so easily been sealed as early as 1900. Following, her untimely demise whilst carring a cargo of burnt ore. Fortunately this was not to be the case following the dramatic rescue of her crew from hewr rigging by Bristols very own steam tug Victor. Why she sank is unclear albeit the conditions where rough, however had her handling been affected by her relatively recent increase in length and weight from 70.7ft to 73.5ft, we shall never know, but what is clear is her sailing days would soon be consigned to history as she was eventually de-masted c 1913 to a dumb barge until her eventual abandonment on Lydney’s gridiron, her valuable seasoned timbers for harvesting by the resident ship wright Alick Gardner.
