BTM.29.12.1900 – On 28/12 trow Regina, Bristol –Gloucester burnt ore, ashore on Dunball. Crew saved by Tug Victor. Severe gales in channel.
Works Dept (Btl), IV,pp.396-9, dd 28.12.00 James Dalby, mate , crew,4,105t burnt ore Avon Manure Co. – Tennant & Sons, Gloucester. Left B 27/12, 11pm and anchored in inside Swash. 3am gale sprang up and rapidly increased. 8am 28th WSW hurricane dragged and grounded Dunball. Heavey seas knocked in side cloth breaking stations and filled her, boat went adrift. Men took to rigging and saved by ST Victor about 9.30am

The fate of the little Saul built vessel Regina could have so easily been sealed as early as 1900. Following, her untimely demise whilst carring a cargo of burnt ore. Fortunately this was not to be the case following the dramatic rescue of her crew from hewr rigging by Bristols very own steam tug Victor. Why she sank is unclear albeit the conditions where rough, however had her handling been affected by her relatively recent increase in length and weight from 70.7ft to 73.5ft, we shall never know, but what is clear is her sailing days would soon be consigned to history as she was eventually de-masted c 1913 to a dumb barge until her eventual abandonment on Lydney’s gridiron, her valuable seasoned timbers for harvesting by the resident ship wright Alick Gardner.
